Bucks 2024 Women’s Heart Health Campaign
26th March 2024 11.00-11.45
Online
The Public Health team at Buckinghamshire Council warmly invites Bucks pharmacy teams to the 45-minute online launch of the Buckinghamshire ‘Show Your Heart Some Love’ women’s heart health campaign launch.
Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Lead for the Heart Failure Service, Dr. Mayooran Shanmuganathan, will open the event with a presentation on the local and national picture of gender disparity in CHD healthcare and outcomes. This will be followed by GP-led talks on:
• women-specific CHD risk factors (including the menopause), and
• the importance of empowering women to care for their hearts from a health inequalities perspective.
Studies from the British Heart Foundation and Heart Research UK show that gender difference influences how quickly a person seeks medical help when experiencing heart attack-like symptoms, how accurately a first diagnosis is made, how quickly the patient is referred, and whether they receive the correct recommended heart attack treatments. Did you know that women have a 50% higher chance of receiving the wrong initial diagnosis after a heart attack, leading to incorrect treatment and a higher risk of poorer outcomes?
On International Women’s Day, 8th March 2024, Buckinghamshire is launching a six-week Women’s Heart Health campaign to address this difference, and the Show Your Heart Some Love campaign launch event for healthcare professionals is part of a suite of activities taking place.
