Hypertension and Contraception Training

The LPC has arranged this half day training session to support pharmacists* to deliver the NHS Hypertension Case-Finding and Pharmacy Contraception services.

Choose either a morning (9.00-12.45) or afternoon (13.30-17.15) session on Sunday 30th June at the Holiday Inn High Wycombe.

The training will be made up of two modules:

Hypertension

  1. Measuring blood pressure – best practice / NICE guidance
  2. Pulse checks – regular / irregular
  3. Normal readings & thresholds for abnormal readings
  4. Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
    • Educating patient on use
    • Practicalities of issuing / returning equipment
  5. Cause of abnormal readings
  6. Promoting healthy behaviours
  7. Identifying & Managing stages 1 and 2 Hypertension
  8. How to manage conversations with your patient

Contraception 

  1. Consent, health history & risk assessment
  2. Patient centred approach
  3. COC vs POP
  4. Other contraceptive options – use, risks and benefits
  5. Common issues
