Readiness survey: NHS Independent Prescribing in Community Pharmacy

While the full details are still being finalised, we are seeking to better understand the distribution of Independent Prescribers (IPs) and Designated Prescribing Practitioners (DPPs) across the Thames Valley ICB area in preparation for delivering NHS Independent Prescribing services within Community Pharmacy. This information will help inform future commissioning intentions.

The 2026/27 Community Pharmacy Contractual Framework (CPCF) has outlined opportunities for NHS independent prescribing for up to five minor ailment conditions from autumn 2026. Prescribing within the CPCF – Community Pharmacy England

In support of delivery, NHS England have published a professional framework, which is a best practice guide for Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technicians involved in the delivery of NHS commissioned Community Pharmacy Services. Before completing this form, please note that to be eligible prescribing pharmacies must:

  • Have a minimum prescriber availability of 24 hours per week
  • Operate prescription management processes in line with national guidance and local ICB agreements
  • Meet the ICB governance requirements for the delivery of these services
