Clinical waste in Oxfordshire must be managed safely to prevent infection risks. Oxford City Council provides a free weekly domestic collection service for hazardous waste and sharps, including wound dressings in orange sacks and needles and syringes in yellow sharps boxes supplied by healthcare professionals.

Non‑hazardous items such as nappies and sanitary waste should be bagged and placed in general waste.

Cytostatic and cytotoxic waste in purple‑lidded containers cannot be collected and must be handled by the NHS.

Residents can apply by completing a clinical waste application form, signed by a healthcare professional and emailed for processing; households are reviewed annually, and the service is not available for commercial properties.
